Peptides are short chains of amino acids — usually made up of fewer than 50 — and they serve as the foundational building blocks of proteins. Within the body, they participate in a wide range of essential biological processes.
Functionally, peptides act in many roles: as hormones, as neurotransmitters, as enzymes, and as signaling molecules that direct cellular activity. Because of this broad spectrum of physiological influence and their potential therapeutic value, peptides are increasingly applied across medicine, cosmetics, and sports nutrition.
The word therefore covers very different things. A peptide in a face cream, a peptide in a sports drink and a peptide studied in a clinical setting are not the same category of product, and they are not governed by the same rules.
